When a parent falls victim to a terminal disease, it can be most devastating on the family. The fight that they will have in their days ahead can be very difficult. The family often feels lost and full of sadness and sorrow as they learn everything about this disease and how they can help their parent through it. For those who need strength and guidance, Alzheimer’s help in El Paso is available for you.

As children, we grow up believing that our parents will always be with us. But as we turn into adults and then begin raising our own children, we realize that our parents are growing older. We see it in little signs like the memory not being as sharp, or maybe they are becoming much weaker, or their personal hygiene isn’t as good as it once was.

Most of these signs are pretty normal in regards to the aging process. But when we start seeing that they are forgetting things that they should never have trouble remembering, it can be concerning. This is a worrisome time for their family and most can stay in denial for quite a while, but after a window of time, the family will see that there is a medical problem.

Making an appointment with their doctor to have them assessed is a very good idea. The doctor can let you know if this is normal or if more testing is needed. This is a time to lean on your family and draw strength from each other as this could be a long and devastating fight for everyone concerned.

If you are told that this is a disease that your parent has, there will be a window of time that the family will have to take to understand and process the information. It can be heartbreaking to know that your family will be dealing with something that they may not have any control over, but none the less, it is a situation that will have to be dealt with.

Finding a good support group will greatly assist you through this trying time. Support groups bring you together with others who are facing this same fight. It provides you with some much needed information and ideas on how to be of better assistance to your loved one. They will also offer you support and advice on how to keep yourself healthy during this time.

If you find that you and your family are facing this illness, Alzheimer’s help in El Paso is available for support, encouragement and information. Take the time to find out where to go for needed help so you are better equipped to assist your loved one.

My dog is almost 17. She’s in fair health and quality of life is good. She seems to have some cognitive problems which I consider dementia. Shes gets stuck in certain places, zones out sometimes, wanders the house if things are not ‘right’ for her, has forgotten hand signals, and has accidents in the house regularly.
Can anything be done about this? I play with her every day, but since she’s just a pet, it’s impossible to determine how bad, or what to do. Anyone have ideas?
