A question asked by maria: How would you know if your grandmother has Dementia?
What are the actual and detailed symptoms of the early stages, mid and late stages? Is there a cure for Dementia? What kind of foods or supplements are beneficial? Please help!

Most detailed answer:

Answer by SandwichGeneration
Dementia describes symptoms of many disorders that affect the brain. Symptoms can vary; things like trouble doing familiar things, getting lost, memory loss, a change in personality, are some some of the symptoms. There are other conditions that can have symptoms that are similar to dementia; for example a reaction to a medication or an infection. The only way to know if your grandmother has a dementia is for a doctor to examine her. It sometimes helps if a family members reports symptoms to the doctor.

A question asked by Ashes: How should I respond to a grandmother in the early stages of alzheimer’s?
My grandmother has been wonderful my entire life. Lately she’ll ask a question and repeat it several times shortly after. Family members respond in different ways. My cousin answers her (sometimes condescendingly by the 3rd time) and rolls her eyes afterwards. My aunt responds “mom I answered that 10 minutes ago.” or “mom you asked that twice already”. Which I believe sometimes makes her feel stupid or angry, maybe even scared. We’re working towards a diagnosis of alzheimer’s, but the family is pretty sure because it runs in the family.
I usually answer the exact way in the exact tone and words I did the other times, giving no indication anything odd happened. Sometimes she’ll respond “oh yes I asked you that”, sometimes she’ll react as if nothing odd happened herself.
Am I doing anything wrong by not pointing out shes repeating herself?

My chosen answer:

Answer by Crazy
No, continue answering her as if she hasn’t asked it 10 times before. Your family is actually responding incorrectly. It’s actually deterioration of the brain cells. This is a fatal disease and you don’t want to feel like your Grandmother was mistreated so have a talk with the family and help them to understand the symptoms of this disease.

Whether you agree or disagree, why not leave your own thoughts below.
