Question by : How do you help a loved one who seems to be getting forgetful and developing dementia seek help?
Very stubborn and denies developing dementia, nearly 80 and forgets conversations we had 15 mins prior to her asking again. She hides things and doesn’t like to shower, I live with her and my son, how do I know when it’s too bad and what do I do? She doesn’t want to go to the doctor abou it, in fact she was extremely offended I even accused her of developing it.

My chosen answer:

Answer by Sonshine
I relate to your situation. My father is 82 and is suffering from dementia in California. He forgets what he has told me after a few minutes. Then he repeatedly asks the same question about my son over and over. It is difficult for someone who has brain dysfunction to want to get help. You might have to bring in a home nurse or call an Azheimers Association in your area and ask for advice.

How about adding your own answer to the comments below!

A question asked by maria: How would you know if your grandmother has Dementia?
What are the actual and detailed symptoms of the early stages, mid and late stages? Is there a cure for Dementia? What kind of foods or supplements are beneficial? Please help!

Most detailed answer:

Answer by SandwichGeneration
Dementia describes symptoms of many disorders that affect the brain. Symptoms can vary; things like trouble doing familiar things, getting lost, memory loss, a change in personality, are some some of the symptoms. There are other conditions that can have symptoms that are similar to dementia; for example a reaction to a medication or an infection. The only way to know if your grandmother has a dementia is for a doctor to examine her. It sometimes helps if a family members reports symptoms to the doctor.

A question from : What would you do if you had dementia but you wanted to join the navy seals?
I have dementia and every night I can’t even fall asleep because I am to scared to wake up and see or hear things. I really want to be a navy seal but if they knew I wouldn’t be aloud. Or I could tell a docter and maybe not have to worry about it anymore but I wouldn’t be able to live up to my dream. So any advice on what I should do?

Best answer:

Answer by MAJ Kev
I’m no doctor, and have never played one on TV, but what you say you have does not sound like any dementia I’ve ever heard of. In fact, if you have dementia, then you are likely too old to even go into the military, let alone try out for the SEALs.

Bottom line, your emotional / mental disorder does sound like it is a disqualifying condition for enlistment as well as trying out for the SEALs.

I recommend that you contact a Recruiter and get some straight facts.

BTW: the word is “allowed”. “Aloud” means something completely different.
