Question posed by Jane Marple: What specialist is best to diagnose dementia?
My father who’s 70 is forgetful, he can’t count like he use to but he still carries a conversation, drives with no incident, still hunt and fish, makes jokes etc.

He went to the hospital for a routine knee operation and the doctors told our mother he has dementia! (he’s been sleep walking while at the hospital).

Anyway. We want a second opinion, not the diagnosis of a small town doctor treating cuts and bruises all day long.

Take him to a psychiatrist; they specialize in dementias. If there is a geriatric psychiatrist in your area, that’s even better. Good luck!

A question from MINIM: What psychological theory relates best to dementia?
I have to right a report on a lady who had dementia, Cardio vascular disease, small vessel disease, and epilepsy, i have to relate a psychosocial theory to it and i cant seem to make find one that would suit any of her conditions?

A question from privateidaho: What is the best book to help families support a loved one with Alzheimer’s?
My grandpa has been diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s disease. I’m looking for the best book on the market for helping families (and especially spouses) understand the disease. I’d also love to find the best book that describes effective ways for slowing the disease’s progression. Thanks!
