Is there a cure? Can it be detected prenatally? Is there a way to detect a carrier?

Not yet to all of these.

We are working towards biomarkers that would allow us to detect AD prior to symptoms. Potential biomarkers are serum proteins and MRI scans.

There is no and will likely never be a “cure.” The direction science is moving toward is prevention of the disease. We will ideally be able to detect the disease 20-40 years before it presents and then implement a multi-faceted treatment stradegy.

There are no tests in practice to detect any forms of AD prenatally.

Less than 5 % of AD is an early onset form where specific genetic mutations are known, and only about 62 % of this 5 % is familial (meaning is was passed down through more than one generation).
The other 95 % of AD is sporadic late onset. There is an increase from 12 – 15 % risk to a 25 % risk of getting AD if you have a primary relative with the disease. However, this does not necessarily imply a genetic risk factor because spouses have also been found to have an increased risk when their long-term live-in partner suffers or has suffered from AD.

A question from Jannel H: Is it possible to get Alzheimer’s disease before your even thirty?
For a few year’s now I’ve felt like I’m getting more and more forgetful about things and I’ve told a doctor this and they told me not to worried about it but it’s still pretty unsettling for me because I do have a family history of Alzheimer’s disease but I’ve never herd of anybody ever getting it before thirty and I’m 27 so I’m wondering is that even possible or am I just being paranoid?

If you’re thinking, “I’ve got Alzheimer’s, I’ve got Alzheimer’s,” It’s gonna make your brain start thinking, “You’ve got Alzheimer’s, you’ve got Alzheimer’s. STOP REMEMBERING, BODY!!!!!”
So, i recommend not letting it bother you because if you tell your brain something is wrong, it’ll make something wrong.

You’re probably fine, but if it’s hereditary, it’s hereditary.

Question by Moe Zart: Is it true that president Reagan had had alzheimer’s disease before his second term started?
Meaning during his entire second term was he suffering from alzheimer’s disease?
Very interesting to know how he managed got elected while with dimentia. He must have been one hell of an actor to fake metal health.

not sure about the entire term. but if you watch him towards the end of his 2nd term you can see where he looks incoherent at times
