Some excellent information about alzheimer’s diagnosis is provided in this short video.
If it had only been a single incident, Jim Mann might not have gone to see his doctor. When a series of strange events happened within one month of each other, he knew something was wrong. Because of his age Jim didnt expect to be presented with a diagnosis of Alzheimers disease, but being only 58 years old people did not believe him; they said he was too young. He now says that finding out was the best thing he could have done; that the knowledge has allowed him to fight the progression of the disease. If youre concerned about a loved one, take him or her to see their doctor. Visit www.onmemory.ca

Glen Campbell went public in June with the news that he has Alzheimer’s disease, and he’s marking the twilight of his life with a surprisingly ambitious project. The country singer’s final, revealing album, ‘Ghost on the Canvas,’ is out on August 30. By Rene Alston and Dan Macmedan.
Question by Avalon: Help on the Alzheimer’s Clock Drawing Test?
Below is the scoring criteria for the Clock Drawing Test. It’s all very straight forward except for “numbers being in the proper special order.” What does that mean? I’ve read the abstract and journal article “Only Time Will Tell.” The test obviously has great diagnostic capabilities. But my results searching for further explanation on this one phrase have been pretty limited.
Thanks.
1 point for the clock circle
1 point for all the numbers being in the correct order
1 point for the numbers being in the proper special order
1 point for the two hands of the clock
1 point for the correct time.
The No 1 answer:
Answer by FlgrlDoc The clock should be sort of divided into eighths and the numbers need to fall in those divisions. Some people just use quadrants, but “technically” its eighths . For example, you can draw all the numbers, but do they take up half the clock, are they on top of each other? You lose a point for that, and more importantly, obviously shows clinically sig cognitive impairment.
A question from thatgrl: is Alzheimer’s disease a type of dementia or a disease that causes dementia?
I’m doing a project for school and I’ve been getting a little confused. Not sure if it is considered dementia in itself or if it’s just considered the disease that causes dementia.
Most comprehensive answer:
Answer by Liz It’s a type which usually starts earlier than senile dementia.

A question from : Can Alzheimer’s be detected before symptoms appear?
Is there a cure? Can it be detected prenatally? Is there a way to detect a carrier?
The No 1 answer:
Answer by x Not yet to all of these.
We are working towards biomarkers that would allow us to detect AD prior to symptoms. Potential biomarkers are serum proteins and MRI scans.
There is no and will likely never be a “cure.” The direction science is moving toward is prevention of the disease. We will ideally be able to detect the disease 20-40 years before it presents and then implement a multi-faceted treatment stradegy.
There are no tests in practice to detect any forms of AD prenatally.
Less than 5 % of AD is an early onset form where specific genetic mutations are known, and only about 62 % of this 5 % is familial (meaning is was passed down through more than one generation).
The other 95 % of AD is sporadic late onset. There is an increase from 12 – 15 % risk to a 25 % risk of getting AD if you have a primary relative with the disease. However, this does not necessarily imply a genetic risk factor because spouses have also been found to have an increased risk when their long-term live-in partner suffers or has suffered from AD.

I found this video about alzheimer’s test recently and believe that you will find it informative.
If there were a test that would reveal whether you’d develop Alzheimer ‘s disease, would you consider taking it? Scientists say there is now a spinal fluid test that can do just that with 100 percent accuracy. A new test highlighted in the archives of neurology may help identify Alzheimer ‘s disease earlier using spinal fluid. And with estimates that one in eight Americans will develop Alzheimer’s, doctors including Jeffrey Milks at Riverside Hospital’s family practice center say spinal could be a great tool.
Question by : I was told that my mother who is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s had to have a pike put in. What is that?
Best answer:
Answer by H The internet isn’t for medical diagnosis. We aren’t trained to tell you about medical matters.
This is something you should have asked the doctors or nurses…whoever told you that this was happening…you need to ask THEM about this. Every case is different.
