Should Dementia/alzheimers Patients Be Allowed to Vote?
I’m wondering what your views are on dementia/alzheimer’s patients being able to vote? Should they be allowed to vote? I know, my mother in law has dementia. She can’t pick out a matching outfit, but she expects to be able to vote. I asked her who she wanted for president and she said McCain. I asked her why and she said because he was in a war. I asked her opinion on some of McCain’s issues and she couldn’t answer. Are there already laws on this or is it a personal opinion?
Thanks everyone!

Yes. Who decides when someone is incapable of voting? What about people who are just stupid? Should they be allowed to vote? Or bigots? As you can see, this would be a very steep slippery slope to go down.
My answer is straight and simple – Only people who are able to provide EDUCATED answers on why they believe that what they are voting for is for the greater good of the United States should be allowed to vote.
Before voting, people should be required to take some sort of “Informed Voters Aptitude Test” (IVAT) to prove that they are educated enough to vote on what they choose to vote on.
Also they need to make voting online an option and change the timeframe to at least a week – this will allow people to be able to vote from home or their office at work.
Just my ten-cents worth.
