My dad is stricken with alzheimers yet refuses to wear the GPS tracking device required by the assisted living facility where he now lives. He cannot stay there unless he wears the necklace. He’s being ornery about it. Any suggestions?

Stitch the GPS into an article of clothing he likes to wear… or better yet.. make a velcro pocket in something he likes to wear in a place he cannot easily reach .
Or, just sit down with him when he’s lucid and talk to him about the GPS and how it works, and why it’s a good idea to have it on.
My neighbors father just went through that same thing. (he actually got out and they found him wondering on a bridge at night!)…He got booted and went to what they call a lock down facility, it is a place where the doors are locked and will lock when anyone approaches, assuming the issue is flight , this may be your only choice.
It sounds cruel I know, I feel for you, both my parents are heading that way…ugh!…
I read something recently that called us the tween generation, we just get the kids somewhat raised and on their own and then because people live so long now, we need to care for our parents, the generation without a break!…good luck..

They make a GPS device that locks on the wrist or ankle of a person. These ar the type that the parole departments use. They are small, light weight, and work really well. They are water-proof, so there isn’t a reason to take them off when in shower or bath, or any time. Some units have a crisis button where the person can push a button and get help. They are not really expensive, but could be priceless if they save your dad from a bad situation. I lived through both my grandparents having Alzheimer’s, I hope and pray you will have an easier time then I did.
