x-brat asked:
I am trying to deal with the fact of my mom having Alzheimers. I don’t want her to forget me but that is inevitable so I need to cope somehow. I thought I could handle it but I feel like I’m tearing apart inside. Any suggestions are welcomed.

what was that?
She won’t forget you. Her mind might weaken, and she might lose her memory to some degree. But take heart — the love between a mother and a son can not be destroyed by something like Alzheimers.

Contact them too for some great programs for your Mom. I have friends who live near Burleigh that have found the day program twice a week to be a godsend.
Go you Yahoo Groups and type in Alzheimer’s suuport or, Alzheimer’s Disease in the seacrch bar, if you’re looking for an online support group. Otherwise, call your local hospital or mental health facility to find one in your area, if you choose to attend one in person. For chat, go to the Yahoo Directory and locate a chat room that pertains to Alzheimer’s. Hope this helps you.
Hi, you don’t mention if your Mom is now living with you or not. My Mother-n-law lives with me, and I care for her full time.
and yes, it can be a hand full. .
It sad to see them go thru this. Some days are better than others. And we do laugh a lot. You have to laugh, and talk.
and try to make it a memory game. As she doesn’t recall what she ate, let alone what day it is. and I do have notes on things.
Your Dr. office, should have a list of local support groups.
on line there is lots of info: one site is I have used is:
remember your not in this alone…
don’t be so hard on your self., I know it’s easier said than done. ((hugs))
