A question from Rainbows and Lollipops: Is it normal for “Fibro Fog” to resemble early Alzheimer’s symptoms?
I am 25 and was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I also have always had ADD and anxiety symptoms as well. I understand that with fibromyalgia the thinking process can be slightly impared. But I was just reading the yahoo article about early sign of Alzheimers and some of the sound familiar. In example, sometimes I have to think a minute before I can tell you what I had to eat the previous day, sometimes I go to say one word and another word comes out or I will not be able to find the word I want to say (maybe that is nerves too). I bump into the walls sometimes (have a hard time judging distances) I have a hard time following a conversation, am easily distracted, bad with names, and cannot handle money most times without my brain freezing up (counting out change or doing math in my head is so hard and have always had trouble with numbers since childhood. This is especially embarassing when trying to count out a tip when I get my hair done (sometimes I have let way too much or too little). Is this normal Fibro Fog, ADD and nervousness, possibly coupled with denseness, lol? Or is this something I should mention to my Rheumatologist when I go for my appointment? What is within the realms of normal when it comes to fibro fog?

Yes honey, it’s normal. In fact the two conditions often mimic each other, especially when there are other medical problems to be dealt with. But please do ask your Rheumatologist to set your mind at ease.

A question asked by Nicole S: Is there an expected time frame for each stage of Alzheimer’s disease?
I understand the general life expectancy time frame, but I was wanting a time frame more specific to each stage. At 3.5 years from diagnosis, my grandmother is at moderate dementia; unable to recall my name although she recognizes me as a friendly face. She is not incontinent yet, but needs assistance with toileting, dressing, etc.

Why Do People Die From Alzheimer’s Disease?

Question posed by : Why do people die from alzheimer’s disease?
What causes alzheimer’s patients to die and is the short term or long term memory affected first?

Most detailed answer:

Answer by Zachary
Alzheimer’s patients die because they simply forget the basic things like how to eat, or how to use the bathroom.

It is a very horrible thing to see and all memory is affected eventually. There are many ways to prevent this disease though.

The most important thing to do is exercise at least 1 hour a day. This is proven to lessen the chance of getting the disease.

A question asked by Wendy M: What can be done legally for a relative who is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s? He is losing his home,?
has lost his mind, and is a danger to himself…he could go off and forget a pot on the stove…
Sometimes he’s all there, and knows he is forgetting things, other times, he doesn’t know who we are..
Does SS pay to have someone come in and care for him? He served 4 years in the Military, so I guess that makes him eligible for benefits…I just don’t know where to start…

Has he seen a doctor? Maybe he can get some medication that slows down Alzheimers.
And you may need to hire a nurse to look after him, if he is by himself.

If you do see a doctor I would also ask them about what else there is you can do to help him.

How Early Can You Be Tested for Alzheimer’s?

alzheimer's test
by

Question by Trisha P: How early can you be tested for Alzheimer’s?
At what age can you be tested for Alzheimer’s? This disease is on both sides of my family and I’m trying to find out how old you have to be before they will test you for it. I know that they can’t test for dementia until your 70′s, but what about Alzheimer’s?

No 1 answer:

Answer by Serra
There isn’t a blood test or tissue test that a doctor can do to find out whether or not you will develop Alzheimer’s. It’s usually diagnosed because the person begins having symptoms and other tests come back negative. Alzheimer’s is proven to be Alzheimer’s after the person’s passing, with a test on the brain then.

I know it’s hard not to worry about it when you have people on both sides of your family with Alzheimer’s but the only way is to wait and see if it develops, and meanwhile you can’t sit around worrying that you’ll get it. Live your life and don’t wait to see if you get Alzheimer’s. You will not do yourself any good worrying about it.

Good luck

A question asked by Savannah: What’s the chance of my boyfriend developing Alzheimer’s disease?
So I’ve been with my boyfriend for a long time now. His dad was just diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. He’s in his late 40′s. I’ve been doing research on the disease and learned that early-onset is inherited. I am at a loss of what to do. My boyfriend could have inherited it and he’ll become the same way in his 40′s. What do I do? Or is there a way to find out if he got it or not?

Answer by Supermodelmommy
Alzheimer’s has a strong genetic link. Since his father had the disease, his chances grow that he may get the disease as well. There is no specific tests that are definitive on if a person has it or not. Doctors take a family history, medical history, and blood tests to rule out other conditions first before making a diagnosis.

Click on the link below for some good information on Alzheimers and genes. I hope that helps. Regardless of the fact that he may develop this one day, don’t treat him any different. Enjoy his company and be there for him when he needs you.
Take care.
